Mentoring Print E-mail

Mentoring Program A Delft MaMa mentor is a Dutch or a well-acclimated international mother who provides emotional and practical support to a first time international expecting mother or mother of a newborn who has no experience with the Delft maternity system. How Do I Become a Mentor? For a better match between mentors and their mentees, we would like to ask you a few questions on your background. Relevant information include your language skills, pregnancy and birth experiences and personal interests.

Suggestions for Activities for Mentoring Program

  • Meeting at a non-smoking cafe or cafe terrace to get acquainted
  • Helping translating Dutch documents related to maternity care (such as printed information from midwife first appointment, etc...)
  • Providing moral support in person, over the phone, by email or live internet chat
  • Inviting your mentee to your own house at least once
  • Listening to the joys of reaching pregnancy milestones such as ultrasounds, etc...
  • Answering questions about what it is like to be a new mom and how to raise children
  • Looking at baby clothes and accessories together, potentially helping find 2nd hand items
  • Explaining what items on the kraamzorgpacket list are and where to buy them
  • Sharing birth stories when mom-to-be is ready for it
  • Visiting new mother when she is ready for it
  • Accompanying new mother during 1st few trips outside after birth for company and practical help
  • Bringing favorite food to new mom if her family cannot come and partner is at work
Every mentoring relationship differs according to personalities, availability and mentee's needs. Share with us your stories of friendships that changed your own pregnancies or that of women around you as an inspiration.

Please do not recommend any medicine (even natural ones) to your mentee. There are serious risks for pregnant and nursing women using remedies without a medical opinion. f your mentee has any health issues, please encourage her to call her midwives, huisarts or gynaecologists.
